Donation Opportunities at AVAIL, Inc.

AVAIL Building Fund

The AVAIL Building fund was established in 2003 to support shelter expansion and the enhancement of handicapped accessibility. Funds are also applied to unexpected repairs within AVAIL’s shelter facility or improvements to the security of the building. The AVAIL Building fund is a special savings account at CoVantage Credit Union. Donations can be earmarked by their donors as well for this fund. Funds should be designated “AVAIL Building Fund” and forwarded to AVAIL c/o PO Box 355, Antigo, WI 54409. All donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be mailed to the donor.

Worker Wellness Account

The AVAIL Worker Wellness account was established in 2006 to support the needs of AVAIL employees in remaining with the agency long-term.  Please view the following video link created by the Washington Coalition Against Domestic Violence to learn more about the needs of advocates. “Advocacy with any victims, but particularly those in contact, requires a lot of different kinds of knowledge. For example, advocates need to know about domestic violence dynamics, effects on children, child development basics, parenting, culturally responsive advocacy, services and interventions to change violent and controlling behavior, assessing lethality and level of risk, community services, government benefits, and legal system options. Applying all that knowledge also requires good judgment, people skills, and the ability to creatively identify relevant responses to each victim’s unique situation.” (*www.futureswithoutviolence.org) AVAIL’s goal is to retain the most qualified, educated, and dedicated staff available in the service of the victims of violence in Langlade County.  To that end, the agency uses this fund to support employee’s on-going needs for health care, retirement, or life insurance costs.  The AVAIL Worker Wellness Account is a special savings account at CoVantage Credit Union.  Donations can be earmarked by their donors as well for this fund.  Funds should be designated “AVAIL Worker Wellness Account” and forwarded to AVAIL c/o PO Box 355, Antigo, WI 54409.  All donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be mailed to the donor.

Operating Support

AVAIL, Inc. provides specialized support for victims of violence through four different programs:

Services can be offered on an individual basis, as well as through a support group format for each service area.  AVAIL is fortunate in that grant funds were available for the creation of these programs and they remain available so that they may be continued.  However, one of the key requirements of most grant applications is the demonstration of local support in the form of match dollars.  On average for every $1 in match funds donated by the local community, AVAIL is able to generate in excess of $5 in state and federal grant funds ear-marked for victim services in Langlade County.  Without local funds to support operations, these applications cannot be written. Additionally, while grant funds can be used to cover many of the clients’ needs, they cannot cover some things.  For example, due to a limited food budget, AVAIL cannot provide convenience foods such as luncheon meats or frozen pizzas.  However, in reality, these may be items that make a family’s life easier as meal options in times of crisis.  Dollars donated for specialty items for clients can work two-fold, they purchase the items needed for the client AND they can be counted toward our local match requirement to bring in more funds to help.  It is a cool multiplier effect! Donations can be earmarked by their donors as well for a particular purchase or service program.  Funds should be designated by the donor for that purpose and  forwarded to AVAIL c/o PO Box 355, Antigo, WI 54409. If no program or purchase is specified, AVAIL will apply the funds as needed to support general operations.   All donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be mailed to the donor.

In-Kind

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to re-build your life if you escaped your home in a fire with just the clothes on your back? What would you need to start over? This is the same scenario that many of our victims and their families face. They need to leave without important papers, check book, mementos, furniture, clothing, household items, etc. If you have items that are in good to excellent condition, please consider donation to AVAIL, Inc. Donations are valued and tax deductible receipts are issued for these items as well. In-kind donations also count as local match support in writing grant proposals for additional support. On average for every $1 in match funds donated by the local community, AVAIL is able to generate in excess of $5 in state and federal grant funds ear-marked for victim services in Langlade County. Without local funds to support operations, these applications cannot be written. Please see our wish list for donation item ideas.
